For three years now I have been extolling the virtues and excitement of engaged inquiry science learning through Smarter Science. Workshops across Canada and at conferences paled in comparison to this week's Inquiry by the Bay gathering in Barrie, Ontario. Two days of workshops in six strands gave teachers, from all over the continent, the opportunity to mix with the like-minded. Here's a quote from one attendee:
This was a brilliant couple of days - FAR better than I had expected - and I walked in with high expectations. I was challenged to re-think inquiry activities that I thought I was doing pretty well to make them even better, I learned a new "structure format" to improve my own inquiry design and I walked away with posters I can use next month. I'm definitely going to incorporate Smarter Science principles into the re-design of our gr 7/8 science course - and make it more process driven and FUN! I've got great ideas for incorporating inquiry into my grade 12 Bio classes for my students.
