Smarter Science is a framework for K-12 science teaching and learning, and developing the skills of inquiry, creativity, and innovation in any curriculum unit. Thousands of teachers across Canada – in every grade – are using Smarter Science to engage their students. For the first time, Smarter Science will be visiting the province of Alberta as part of the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Lethbridge.
Youth Science Canada is pleased to offer local educators the opportunity to complete Smarter Science workshop 1 (Introduction to Smarter Science) at the University of Lethbridge during the Canada-Wide Science Fair. As an added bonus, educators who attend the one-day workshop will get a guided visit of the fair with a chance to interact with Canada’s top young scientists.
In this workshop, designed for beginners, educators will learn about the 35 inquiry process skills in the Smarter Science Framework and how to use the Steps to Inquiry strategy to help students plan and implement their own investigations. Throughout the day, participants will learn how to scaffold the inquiry process from a guided inquiry to an open-ended inquiry. Many demos and ideas to stimulate your thinking!
Workshop is available in both official languages:
- English – Saturday May 11 2013 from 9am to 4pm
- French – Friday May 17 2013 from 9am to 4pm
Special pricing: $75
The regular price for attending the workshop is $100 per participant (+ 5% GST). Thanks to a sponsorship from Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation (ABCRC), we are offering a discount of $25 per participant. Registration will begin on April 8.
